Every human being is governed by an inborn force that is present from birth. It is our native instinct that is determined by factors present from birth and stays with us throughout our lives. It is that sense of wonder that pushes us to choose our interests and our career path, it is the instinct that tells us to stay out of the way of a fast moving truck, it is that impulse that buys the winning lottery ticket, call a certain person at a certain time, attracts us to our friends or where we live and basically guides the way we live our lives. It is our choice to either listen to or ignore this native voice.
Our bodies know what needs to be done. When we cut ourselves the body starts to heal itself without being told. Our hearts beat and blood flows, thousands upon thousands of messages are sent throughout the body through neural pathways regarding what actions need to be taken. Our bodies fight diseases and foreign bacteria, viruses etc…everyday without being consciously told to. Our bodies want to stay healthy and will do everything it possibly can to maintain that homeostasis. It’s this native voice, that innate or inner knowing or natural instincts that ensures total balance. This is what BodyTalk taps into.
BodyTalk is a tool that was developed in the mid 1990s as a means to outwardly communicate with the body mind to affect good health. By combining several techniques from different modalities – Western anatomy and physiology, Chinese medicine, Applied Kinesiology, Bioenergetics and Yoga – to name just a few, a practitioner can tap into a person’s native voice, discover the communication pathways that have been disrupted by the various stresses both physical and emotional that have blocked the natural flow of optimum health in the body mind and establish the body’s priority for healing.
BodyTalk is a safe, non-invasive modality with no side effects. Because the Bodytalk practitioner directly communicates with the person’s body, the body itself directs the order and areas to be dealt with.
All diseases; diabetes, heart attacks, arthritis, fibromyalgia, pneumonia, allergies, infertility, pain (acute and chronic), sleeping disorders, mental and emotional issues, digestive issues, menstrual issues, etc. - are all symptoms of the lack of communication among the various parts of the human body –arms, legs, toes, fingers, head, brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, thymus, thyroid, pituitary, adrenals, etc. and all of their energic, emotional and mental counterparts.
BodyTalk’s basic premise is that we physically store emotions, memories, pathological belief systems in all of the cells of the body in the various glands, organs, and tissues as opposed to the brain only. Eventually, these overly stored emotions and memories result in very real, physical health problems – cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, ulcers, anorexia, the list is endless. Science has discovered that everything happens on an energy level first and then manifests on the physical level. Consequently, the root cause of the disease process rarely gets addressed. A disease is “cured” and another new ache or pain takes its place – this cycle happens repeatedly throughout our lives – sometimes one right after another, or sometimes it takes years before another major illness shows up. We live a band aid existence rather than actually healing the wound.
From the time we are born the stress of daily living covertly erodes the physical and innate ability of our body mind to maintain optimum health. Using such tools as the BodyTalk modality (whether alone or in conjunction with holistic or western medicine techniques) helps release the pressure of these stresses and disease symptoms, and facilitate healing to the physical and innate core of the bodymind.
BodyTalk Tenets:
Our body mind is made up of a series of interactive system of circuits – nervous system, endocrine system, organ systems, skeletal and muscular systems, etc. on the physical level, chakra system, meridians, qi, etc. on the energy level, emotions and thoughts on still another level, all operating on various frequencies from lowest to highest. By isolating a set of trigger points that are out of balance, i.e., not communicating with each other within the body, and then correcting this malfunction, the bodymind can go back to functioning at optimum. Much like resetting a blown circuit breaker in your house, Body Talk can reset the bodymind’s circuits so that communication along the energy pathways is once again free flowing, humming along at optimum.
1. Direct Communication
Using the Applied Kinesiology technique of muscle testing, the practitioner can communicate with the bodymind. The practitioner establishes a yes/no system such that the body can let us know what it needs. Utilizing an arm the practitioner trains the person’s body to give yes or no responses. A “no” response and the muscle remains strong when slight pressure is applied, a “yes” response and the muscle weakens and the person’s arm gives when slight pressure is applied. These yes/no responses highlight the imbalances in the body whether due to something physical, emotional, energic, mental, etc… Whatever is a priority is what will reveal itself.
By using the muscle testing technique in this manner, it puts the person’s body in charge. Whatever is needed the most is what will come up. The practitioner does not diagnose. The BodyTalk philosophy emphasizes that the body is the center of the session and therefore is more knowledgeable than the practitioner regarding what the healing priorities are.
2. Breath of Life
Yoga philosophy states that art of breathing is the key to perfect health. Each full breath cycles causes a myriad number of functions to occur all with synchronicity: muscles expand and contract to pump the blood, our cranial bones help the cerebrospinal fluid to circulate, our lungs take in air and expel impurities, our brain scans all of the frequencies of the body looking for malfunctions, and so on. Consequently, if our breathing cycle is restricted or shallow, our brain and heart energy can not correctly ascertain whether or not we are in a state of health.
BodyTalk utilizes the breathe cycle to ensure that the brain and heart / immune system are fully engaged in the protocol for lasting results.
3. Tapping
The simple act of tapping on the head, also used in some forms of yoga and kinesiology, while touching various trigger points causes the brain to focus on those trigger point links and affect a repair. Tapping the sternum (the heart center) locks in the new memory for a new state of health.
It is the combination of tapping and breathing that is the key to the BodyTalk process as it is the breath cycle that influences the heart beat and brain scans of the body. If the body is in balance and everything within is connected and functioning optimally then we can experience complete, balanced health.
How does BodyTalk actually work?
During the tapping sequence the person is requested to perform several deep breathes while touching the highlighted trigger points. When we deep breathe several things happen: our body starts to relax because more oxygen is circulating and we start to open up because our muscles are relaxing. On another level, deep breathing acts as a highlighter, helping the brain to focus on the issue, and bring it to the surface.
While the person is deep breathing, (1) tapping the top of the head sends a very clear message to the brain to correct the situation that is highlighted by the connected trigger points and (2) tapping the sternum ensures that the heart/thymus is storing this new corrected information and to permanently remember it on the cellular level. This sequence ensures that the new memory will hold, and that particular link or issue won’t have to be balanced out again with regard to that matter. In other words, we are downloading and storing instructions for the body and its mechanisms to carry out. It now knows what it needs to do and will continue to do so.
The person is then retested with the muscle testing technique to ensure that the balancing procedure took and will hold. Much like peeling the layers off an onion, we just peeled off that layer and we can now move on to the next priority. Please note that the result may not always be instantaneous. The person may go through the complete shift over the next several days. The advantage is that the treatment continues to work for and with the person over time.
BodyTalk Sessions
As stated above, almost any facet of health can be addressed with BodyTalk. Emotional disorders, toxicities, diseases chronic and acute and autoimmune, pain anywhere in the body chronic and acute, sleeping disorders, allergies, digestive disorders, energy imbalances in the meridians, chakras, etc., pathological belief systems, phobias, and pathological memories being stored in the body, and so much more.
BodyTalk is complementary to any other modality and can be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment or as a stand alone session. Western medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and many other types of practitioners have been trained in BodyTalk, incorporating its techniques into their daily practice with optimum results.
Since the person’s body dictates the session, it acts as a safety mechanism ensuring that everything is in synch and working properly together as opposed to being separate or “having too many cooks in the kitchen,” or going into system overload by focusing on too many areas for the body to handle all at once.
Sessions normally take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and are done with the patient fully clothed, laying on a massage table, removing shoes, watches or other electronics and / or jewelry.
